TCFUA urges Rudd Government to go further with TCF Industry Plan

19 September 2008 The Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia (TCFUA) has called on the Rudd government to carefully consider its response to a new industry report and urged it to freeze tariff cuts and expand industry assistance. The government released Professor Roy Green’s report Building Innovation: Review of the Australian Textile Clothing and Footwear (TCF) industries today in Melbourne.

TCFUA Submission to the Review

The submission proposes a new Textile Clothing and Footwear (TCF) Industry Plan – one that repositions government policy and programs. A plan that supports jobs, innovation, skill, product and export development. A plan that has as its foundation, support for an industry which is smart, ethical in its treatment of workers and sustainable in its environmental credentials. A plan that genuinely assists workers and their communities affected by restructuring.

TCFUA officials and 50 workers from around Australia went to Parliament House to meet MPs about the governments response to the report and to urge them to be proud and public in their support of Australias TCF industry
