To the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Kim Carr, and Professor Roy Green,

I want to live in a country that continues to actually make things. Manufacturing can provide well-paid, skilled and rewarding jobs for Australian workers and is vital to our country's long-term economic security and prosperity. Following 10 years of neglect by the Howard Government, experience tells us and research shows that Australia needs to improve its manufacturing policies or face decline.

I call on you to support Professor Roy Green’s recommendations in the TCF review report to refashion the industry into one that is innovative, ethical, clean and green.

However, I urge you to go further and support the TCFUA’s call for a freeze on tariff cuts and expansion of industry assistance linked to local jobs and increase assistance to retrenched workers.
